BUCYRUS, OH-  After falling in their opener at Liberty-Benton 49-0, the Wynford Royals have come back with two straight shutout wins over rival Bucyrus 48-0 and Allen East last week 33-0.  The week one loss was an eye opener for the entire team according to senior running back Zach Houck (42 carries 383 yards two touchdowns).  "It just motivated us.  I don't think any of us wanted that feeling ever again after a loss watching that film on Saturday.  No one ever wants to do that again."

"The first week when we were embarrassed by a good Liberty-Benton team it was get back to basics and do things better," said head coach Gabe Helbert.  Our challenge this week will be much greater.  The team we play this week in Colonel Crawford (1-2) is a very good team so we have to get better defensively as well as offensively and special teams."

They're a good team," says offensive lineman Caleb Rausch.  If we stick to a team defense and work together as a team it will be a good game."

Ater winning their opener 46-7 over Mt.Gilead, the Eagles have dropped two straight both in N-10 play to Carey 27-14 and Mohawk last week 34-20 as the Eagles are trying to grow up fast after being hit by graduation.

"Crawford is in a reloading type phase," says Helbert.  "They are a well-coached football team.  They have a good system.  Losing players is just something that happens at every school, but it's a matter of the kids responding.  They're running back (Trevor Shawber 44-320 yards 4TD), is a handful and very physical and certainly can be the difference in a game.  Their quarterback(Hayden Bute 24-49-374 4TD 2 INT), is a strong armed kid who started last year.  I have tons of respect for what CC does and what they have been able to do over the past several years."

A season ago, at Colonel Crawford, the Royals went out to a 21-0 lead only to have the Eagles get back in the game coming up just short as the Royals hung on to win 28-21, as Crawford turned the ball over late in what may have been a touchdown tieing drive.

"You always look at the film from last year, what we did good and bad and try to perfect the stuff we did last year going into this season," says Rausch.

The Wynford vs Colonel Crawford football game will be replayed on WMFD TV Friday at midnight and at 5 pm on Saturday.
