Louie T. Lambert Sr., 91, of Mansfield was reunited with his bride of 70 years on Friday, October 20, 2017. He was born April 27, 1926, in Smokey Valley, Kentucky, to the late Charles Walter Lambert and Emma (Lawhorn) Lambert.

 

Louie was a veteran of WWII, serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps, 44th Infantry Division from 1942-1945. He was a member of Dean Road Freewill Baptist Church for 50 years and was the oldest Deacon in the conference, ordained in 1974. Louie also served as a Sunday school teacher. 

 

He retired from Empire Detroit Steel Mill and enjoyed carving in his free time. Many people were lucky enough to receive a hand carved walking stick from him. Louie served as a Boy Scout leader in his younger years. Very friendly and outgoing, no one was a stranger to Louie. He enjoyed passing out candy to people, feeding the birds and watching airplanes. In his free time, he enjoyed hunting and fishing and was most happy when he was traveling. 

 

He is survived by five children, Louie (Sue) Lambert Jr., Linda Meenach, Charles (Freda) Lambert, Mike (Barb) Lambert and Cheryl (Doug) George; grandchildren, Marie (Dave), Tammy, Patty (George), Louie (Shannon), Rodney (Sheri), Terri (Mike), Tommy, Shannon (Laura), Darren (Kelly), Jodi (Mike), Jamie (Melissa), Denise, Angie and Nada; twenty-seven great-grandchildren; and eight great-great grandchildren. He is also survived by a brother, Arcus Lambert; four sisters, Thelma (Lloyd) Abrams, Saddie Fife, Frances Stevens, and Shelby Jean Barker; and several nieces and nephews.

 

Louie is preceded in death by his loving wife, Reba Smith Lambert; parents; and brother, James Lambert.

 

The family will receive friends from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 25, 2017, at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Road. The funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Thursday at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Clifford Earl Tackett officiating. He will be laid to rest beside his wife in Mansfield Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to Dean Road Freewill Baptist Church.
