BUCYRUS, OH – The Bucyrus City School District and Carey Local Schools will participate in a state-wide campaign, #HelpingHouston, during the varsity football game at Bucyrus Friday, Sept. 15.

Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) Assistant Commissioner Jerry Snodgrass is leading the state-wide program to collect usable t-shirts for the victims of Hurricane Harvey. Students from Bucyrus and Carey can donate 4 (four) usable t-shirts at the stadium pass gate and receive free admission to the contest between the Redmen and the Blue Devils.

“The BHS Student Council is excited to participate in the #HelpingHouston campaign,” said advisor Kaylene Love. “There is still plenty to be done to help those in Houston affected by Hurricane Harvey, and I’m proud of these students for taking a leadership role in the efforts locally.”

Snodgrass is asking students to follow him on Twitter at @Jerry_Snodgrass and tag all pictures and tweets with the hashtag #HelpingHouston. The collected t-shirts will be sent to the OHSAA offices, and then forwarded to University of Houston men’s basketball coach Kelvin Sampson for distribution to the residents of Houston.

“I want to thank the administration for the Carey Local Schools for their involvement in this event Sept. 15,” said Bucyrus Athletic Director Rick Rawson. “We are happy to help those in need, and are very fortunate to be able to participate in the #HelpingHouston campaign.”

Community members may also donate t-shirts at the pass gate. However, students in grades kindergarten through twelve, donating 4 usable t-shirts, will be the only individuals receiving free admission to the game.
